Validity:

The validity of the M.A.P. encompasses three dimensions. First, the author has accumulated thirty years of experience and training in diagnosing the scales found in the M.A.P. Second, when compared to other assessments, such as:

The Beck Depression Inventory, The Myers-Briggs Temperament Sorter, Penn State University Time Management Analysis, Four Temperament Analysis Profile, Athletic Motivational Inventories (Tutko & Richards), and MMPI "Depression" Level. The results were very comparable.

As a side note, Dr. Fowler sees adult undiagnosed ADHD tendencies as hidden factors that affect all areas of life. Dr. Fowler has concentrated his efforts on particular ADHD patterns and has developed specific questions to measure these patterns. These questions, which are included in the M.A.P., have helped Dr. Fowler pinpoint ADHD tendencies and obtain fairly rapid insight on a basic level. When the results were compared with individuals who were diagnosed with ADHD using standard evaluation methods such as the WISC-R, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, Learning Efficiency Test, Concentration Endurance Test, Bender Gestalt, and The Visual Cancellation Test, conclusions closely paralleled the findings of those assessments.

The third component, research consensus by noted experts in their respected field were used to formulate the questions used in the profile.

The criteria used to determine the modality and kinesthetic affects plus individual learning style originated from such researchers as Tony Buzan, Ph.D. and Eric Peper, Ph.D. (Behavioral Science Dept., San Francisco State University), Bruce Perry, M.D. (Baylor College of Medicine), Sally P. Springer, Ph.D., and George Deutch, Ph.D. In addition, over 400 students from LeTourneau University were tested to validate this section of the profile.

Means and standard deviations for the samples will be continually upgraded as the population study increases. Once 1,000 assessments are administered, definitive norms will be formulated so individuals can compare themselves to their gender, age, region of the country, and if involved in athletics, their position on the team.
